I don't know if that's normal. and the only number that we did find was in the 4,000 range. This was a gift and the receiver was thrilled. The only questionable thing, is that on the cover it said it was a limited edition numberd record. We couldnt really find that.
And it sounds so lively and vibrant.Levon is still playing those drums like he means it and his voice, even after his after his surgery for throat cancer in 1998, remains as moving as ever. Levon Helm is a legend, no doubt about it. Me I just can't praise this album enough. Very well produced by Larry Campbell who played with Bob Dylan during the Love & Theft period and Levon's daughter Amy Helm, Dirt Farmer should please everyone who is interested in true American folk music. Released in 2007, Dirt Farmer brings an absolutely outstanding group of musicians together. From the first chords on False Hearted Lover Blues through to the last song, the beautiful Wide River To Cross this is an album of real American music.
Way YES on this one from Levon featuring contagious pickin & squeezin. Foot tappin, hip slappinhill music. love this way-down home sound. The zydico mixes with the raw country sawing violin and harmonies.
He sings blues like "Feeling Good". Gentle and loving like the best man is his choice of cuts. I grew up in rural Missouri hating Bluegrass with a passion. Tears wet my eyes. Rough, like life, is his voice. Remarkable. Stories of heart break, and courage-- songs as old as our country like "Blind Boy" and "Anna Lee".
Moving, inspiring, gut-wrenching, true. This is one of the best CDs I've ever encountered.
His voice cries and rises and wails like any good Chinese or Native American singer. (A BIG Corporation has my husband's farm).
Then, too many years later, driving home exhausted from the pain in my California Inner City counseling work I heard Levon Helm and my hair stood up. "Poor Old Dirt Farmer" is the story of our farmers in the Midwest, in the South, and, change the crop, you've got my husband's farm.
This is as good as it gets, doing what music is meant to do: Move us. So, here's a drummer from The Band, who had surgery for throat Cancer and sings like an ancient wanderer on the Steppes.
And the songs--oh Mercy, the songs.
I am very satisfied with my purchase. I heard the title track and I loved Levon Helm's voice. The CD is great, very enjoyable.
